WOOZY
Woozy is a 3-piece experimental "rock band" from New Orleans, LA. Their music focuses on intricate instrumentation and bold dynamic shifts to subvert their naturally poppy melodic tendencies. Walls of guitar feedback and fuzz interspersed with fingerpicked flourishes help turn "overthinking what you said to the barista while you were looking for change" into an art form.
ALASKA
Founded in 2011, Alaska is the product of four individual efforts channeled in one. Effect drenched guitars and driving bass guitar weave around one another, trading off prominence creating a peaceful and interesting ambiance. Guiding the course of the noise are the progressive and nuanced drum patterns laid down by Nick Strader. All of Alaska swells and recedes as shouting vocals and singing match the intensity or somberness. Alaska manages to maintain a cohesive and emotional heaviness while also displaying proficiency on their instruments. Through their DIY ethos, the band has managed to catalog several self-releases and secure a label association with Soft Speak Records as of summer 2013. Constant self-booking all across the U.S has crafted Alaska into a prominent name in the DIY touring circuit, while also cultivating a strong following of friends from around the country. Slated to release their second LP in 2015, Alaska is poised to be just as, if not more popular than the state of the same name.
DENT
"Needless to say, Dent has my rapt attention for everything it does from here on out. This is some of the craziest, most experimental fun music that I've heard in a while, it somehow holds up as pop, but it is way out on the fringe, in the best lo-fi way possible. "1996" literally sounds like it came from 1996 -- think Pavement and Sebadoh mixed with Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd. I'm not kidding. The other side of the single is the equally fascinating "Shift," which is psychedelic pop in a Flaming Lips way. This music makes me dizzy and I expect to see trails at any moment. These two songs have made this entire week worth living for; I simply can't get enough of Dent." - Mitchell Hillman, Phoenix New Times
TWIN PONIES
TWIN PONIES
Twin Ponies is a progressive rock band composed of members of the defunct Tempe indie-alternative band, Tugboat. The band was formed by Wayne Jones, Phillip Hanna, and Jordan Tompkins in 2013. Eventually adding Jacob Lauxman’s melodic guitar styling, the group solidified their line-up. Twin Ponies looks to take the grunge influenced sound of their former group and expand it into a new direction.
